If you think that juicing for health is a new concept, you would be wrong. Juicing, in one form or another, has been part of human civilization for a long time. It seems that humans were aware of the benefits of juicing long before scientific studies actually proved them. There are many known benefits to juicing, a good juicer is a great investment that can contribute to improved health and lifestyle.
Healthy Juicing in the Past
There are a few examples we can explore as far as past juicing adventures are concerned. One such example is that of the ancient Polynesians, who would extract juice from the noni fruit through pressing it. Fresh fruit and vegetable juice was also part of the early Polynesians diet. The Peruvians have long since been known for their love of fresh passion fruit juice. There are also inferences in the Bible about juicing in one form or another. It would therefore appear that this form of consuming fruits and vegetables has been with us for a long time, and has only been recently ‘revived’ as it were.
For centuries, fruits, vegetables and herbs have been used for medicinal purposes in India, and juice derived from this produce for healthy living. Items such as mangoes, radishes, aloe vera, onions and limes have been used for centuries in India to create a sort of elixir to restore health and fight against common diseases.
Juicing In Modern Times
The first ‘real’ juicer can be traced to the 1930’s, it was an invention by one Dr. Norman Walker. He had long since discovered the benefits of ingesting fresh fruit and vegetable juice, and therefore set out to come up with a practical way to derive juice from produce for health purposes. Research into juicing has also revealed that we are able to absorb more proteins, vitamins, minerals, good carbohydrates and enzymes by extracting fresh juice out of fruits and vegetables.
As a testament to his juicer, Dr. Norman practiced what he preached, and incorporated a regular diet of fresh fruit and vegetable juice. He lived to be 99 years old, which as anyone will tell you, is well beyond what most consider to be a ripe old age. On the surface, it would seem plausible to assume that the good doctor’s juicing lifestyle contributed to his prolonged life.
The Real Benefits of Juicing
Apart from being able to get more nutrients from fresh produce, juicing has also been linked with weight loss. Although in itself it is not enough for significant weight loss, when coupled with good diet practices and regular exercise, juicing has been seen to greatly assist people to lose weight.
Juicing for health is highly recommended as part of a healthy lifestyle. Rather than relying on expensive juice bars for your regular fix of health drinks, a good juicer is a worthy investment. It may appear expensive to purchase, but the juicer will more than pay for itself in a short time. It is easy to get the maximum nutrition from fruits and vegetables through juicing, which is why this is such an important part of an all round healthy lifestyle. For those with pre-existing medical conditions, please be sure to confer with your doctor before you begin your juicing adventure.
