Juice Fasting and Detoxification is a gift for individuals who want to take their juicing beyond limits. No matter you want to lose weight, detoxify your body or cure ailments, this book reveals how to make the most of the healing power of juice fasting. Amazingly, you can do all this with pure, fresh and delicious juices.
Why juice fasting?
Even the science accepts that human body has the best innate healing system – all you have to do is unleash it and the best way to do it is juice fasting. You can increase your physical energy level, improve mental alertness, and live a happy life without doing anything extreme i.e. taking drugs, working out exhaustively, or bearing the exterminating hunger.
Who is Steve Meyerowitz?
Steve has been the leading advocate of sprouting, juicing, fasting, wheatgrass, indoor gardening, raw foods, and pure water for more than three decades now. In 1979, Vegetarian Time Magazine christened him as Sproutman because of his 100% sprout diet. Earlier, Steve suffered certain chronic allergies and asthma, and he tried various conventional medicines, but to no avail. This made him change his diet, and then his complete lifestyle.
He has grown an indoor garden, 12 stories above the streets of New York City, where he also teaches indoor gardening techniques. Several of his other books including Sprouts the Miracle Food, Sproutman’s Kitchen Garden Cookbook, and Wheatgrass Nature’s Finest Medicine have been critically acclaimed. He has been featured on several TV shows: PBS, the Home Shopping Network, TV Food Network, and in Prevention, Better Nutrition, and Organic Gardening magazines, to name a few.
What’s inside the book?
The book preaches what Benjamin Franklin said almost a couple hundred years ago:
The best of all medicines are rest and fasting!
It’s an easy and pleasant read that’s full of handy information. Steve’s direct and simple approach makes you feel comfortable. You’ll learn about the basic of juicing and how it can be beneficial to your body, how long you should juice and how to exit a fast safely. But the best section is the one that features several delicious and healthy juice recipes (at least it appealed the most to this writer, note from www.juicersandrecipes.com).
Here are the main sections from the table of contents:
- How to begin
- How long to fast
- Types of juices
- Methods of detoxification
- Coming off a fast
- Spiritual fasting
- How to buy a juicer
What we liked about Juice Fasting and Detoxification
- Interesting, useful and to the point suggestions
- It’s a multipurpose book, and will help you no matter you want to get more energy, enhance mental alertness, heal chronic diseases, lose weight or just maintain stamina
- No drugs, or exhausting exercises
- Useful tips on all aspects of juicing; from buying a juicer to making delicious saps
What we didn’t like
- We would have loved to see a few more recipes
- Some of the writer’s claims are not backed by science
- Recommends buying hydrochloric acid and bleaches; not a shortcoming of the book though, but are we not talking about the new-age, save the planet mentality?
