Meet the authors

Though Susan Eagles has also contributed to writing The Juicing bible, Pat Crocker has to be credited with the bulk of the input. She is an author, culinary herbalist and professional home economist from Neustadt, Ontario. Crocker has 25-years of experience with natural foods, and has written several other famous measurements including The Vegetarian Cook’s Bible and The Smoothies Bible. She came into limelight when the 1st edition of The Juicing Bible won the International Cookbook Revue Award in 2000.

What to expect from the juicing bible?

To have an idea what’s inside, let’s take a look at the table of contents with a brief description:

  • Healthy body systems

The first section features a short discussion of technical stuff i.e. different systems of human body including immune system, endocrine system, musculoskeletal system, nervous system and respiratory system. You’ll also learn basic details about several ailments e.g. memory loss, arthritis, osteoporosis, muscle spasms, anxiety, depression, asthma and allergies.

You can skip this part, but this will give you a strong understanding about the basic functionalities of our body and its systems to help you comprehend how different foods and juices can be useful under certain circumstances.

  • Health conditions

This alphabetically organized section lists several diseases including cancer, headaches, indigestion etc., with their remedies and healing drinks.

  • Healthy foods

Again this section is organized alphabetically, but talks about the fruits and vegetables. You’ll also learn the benefits of each item besides tips on buying, consuming and storing it.

  • The recipes: Fruit and vegetable juices

This section (is our favorite and) has delicious and healthy recipes of fruit and vegetable juices, tonics, cleansers, digestives, teas, roughies, smoothies, milk and coffee substitutes plus some frozen treats.

  • Juices for healthy bodies

This section covers juice recipes to improve your health e.g. heart-healthy tonics, respiratory juices, muscle powers, nerve nourishers, immunity boosters, stress busters, tonics, cleansers and healing teas.

  • Appendix C: Herbs to avoid in pregnancy.

Author’s style

The book is written in an interesting, casual and simple tone; even the complex ideas are explained in a clear and organized manner. All the recipes are explained in a step-by-step style as if the writer is making it in front of you.

What we loved about this book

  • Easy to understand and follow
  • Comprehensive – A complete lifestyle guide for juice lovers
  • Delicious and health recipes you don’t find elsewhere
  • Reasonably priced

What’s annoying?

  • A bit too technical – especially the first couple of sections, they probably won’t appeal to you if you’re simply interested in recipes – but of course it is easy to skip this section.
